Evenflo has been making baby gates for a while and since our little boy has started crawling, a gate for the top of our stairs has become a necessity.
About the Product
The Evenflo Secure Step Top of Stairs Gate is, like the name says, specifically designed for placement at the top of the stairs. It is drilled into the wall and then either drilled into the wall, banister or stair banister attachment.
Features and Functionality
This gate is a very secure metal gate, that can expand depending on the size of your opening. It can go from 29″ to 42″ wide. It is also able to swing open both directions, which is very handy depending on if you are going up or down the stairs. It can also be adjusted to swing only one direction if you’d like. It does also have a red and green lock indicator so that you can make sure that once you close it, that it is actually locked into place.
The gate is designed to be installed in about 5 steps, however, it did take a little more time than anticipated to get it installed. Attaching the gate to the brackets that were on the wall was not very difficult, but it did take more effort to attach the brackets to the walls properly. Their new one hand Lever-Loc is a very nice concept, however it was very difficult to use right out of the box. The spring was quite tight and we had to go into the mechanism and do some additional adjusting to get it to loosen up some. We wanted it to be secure, however we wanted to be able to open the gate too. Once we put some effort into adjusting the lock it has worked great. It is secure, it is also easy to use, and most importantly, it keeps our son at the top of the stairs.
