Oprah’s Veggie Wash

While it is always best to buy organic, it is not always realistic. Many stores don’t carry organic options for all the food that you eat and when they do, they are generally more expensive than the conventional variety. Oprah featured a homemade “veggie wash” on her Earth Day episode that is a great option to use on fruits and vegetables when you cannot buy organic. This veggie wash will clean off many of the pesticides that are in conventional fruits and veggies and is extremely simple to make.

Ingredients

1 cup of water
1 cup white vinegar
1 T baking soda
20 drops grapefruit seed extract (This can be purchased at most health food stores)

Preparation

Mix all of the ingredients together and carefully pour them into a clean spray bottle.

Use

Spray your homemade veggie wash on any non-organic fruits and vegetables. Leave the spray on the produce for 5-10 minutes and then rinse off with water. This will help to limit the number of pesticides that your family is exposed to.
