There are so many products out there and it can be confusing once you get home and then line up all your products on your counter. Panic sets in and then products do not get used. As we try to find simpler things in life, we forget the reason why we bought them in the first place and then end up not using them.
Here is a quick guide to how to use products and when to use them. First, as rule always start your routine with clean skin. Use your cleanser first that is recommended for your type of skin. Dry skin with towel and then use a toner if recommended. I personally do not think that a toner is needed, especially if you clean your skin well. Save the money unless it is part of a regimen that you are buying.
Next, the most important rule is to use the product that is the lightest first. Usually this will be a serum or treatment product. When using products like this, make sure you allow the product dry completely before moving on to the next step. If you end up applying a serum and other products on top, then products will “ball up on your face”.
After a serum or treatment product, follow with a moisturizer recommended for your skin type. Next, apply an eye cream to the area around the eyes. Apply the product to your ring finger and gently apply. Products tend to migrate and can get into the eye later in the day. If a product is stinging your eyes it is probably do to user error, so apply the product not as close to your eye next time.
Finally, apply a sunscreen, if there is one not already in your moisturizer. Once this has dried then follow with foundation or other make-up that you normally use.
This may sound like a lot of work, but if you are going to invest in skin care products then it is important to use them correctly. Think of it as layering and once you get used to it then it will become second nature and not seem as time consuming.
