Teach Healthy Habits with Super Healthy Kids

healthyhabitsplatesmHealthy eating was something that only occasionally crossed my mind before I had kids. Having children has a way of changing you. Nutrition is high on my list of priorities now and with three boys ages 4 and under, it is constantly on my mind. I’ve been pretty lucky with my kids. They may hate some basic things like rice and potatoes, but they love fresh fruits and vegetables. As a mom, I’m often kicking myself for not using their current love of healthy foods to its full advantage by placing fruits and vegetables center stage at each meal.

Amy, at Super Healthy Kids has created a wonderful tool for mothers who need a little help getting kids to eat healthy meals.

Make Healthy Eating Fun

Super Healthy Kids has made it easier to make healthy choices. Their Healthy Habits Plates provide kids with a clear example of what a healthy meal should look like. This sectioned plate sets aside the largest portion for fruits and vegetables and the smaller two portions for grains and protein. Fun illustrations show kids what types of foods should be placed in each section, turning healthy eating into a game, rather than a chore.

My four year old was so excited about the concept when he first saw the place that the first words out of his mouth were “I’m hungry. Let’s go find some foods that match the pictures.”

A Template for Healthy Eating

The Healthy Habits Plates provide a wonderful template for healthy eating at each meal. With all the unhealthy food options available to us, we often forget what healthy proportions are. Super Healthy Kids helps kids remember that “half their plate should be full of fruits and vegetables, 1/4 of their plate should be filled with protein, and 1/4 of the plate with grains.”

I want one of these plates for grownups! (Although, if I am being perfectly honest, I could probably do with smaller portion sizes too.) We all need a reminder to make healthier food choices.

The Healthy Habits Plates are very sturdy and dishwasher safe (which is a major requirement for everything in my kitchen). At only $5.00 a plate these are well worth the cost to get my kids excited about eating healthy foods.

Be sure and check out Amy’s Healthy Eating Blog. It is one of the best resources for kid’s nutrition that I have seen!
