Preschool Theme – Valentines Day

Valentines Day is an exciting holiday for preschoolers who are learning how to express their emotions. These fun and easy preschool education activities can be used as part of a Valentines Day preschool theme or as fun activities to do at home with mom.

Preschool Valentines Day Circle Time

Who do you love? – Ask preschoolers what it means to love someone. Talk about the people that they love and why they love them.

Preschool Valentines Day Arts and Crafts

ASL I-Love-You Craft - This fun craft uses a cut out of a preschoolers hand to create the ASL sign for I-Love-You. Preschoolers will love using their imagination to decorate the paper heart that they will glue their hand sign on.

Preschool Valentines Day Math and Science

Heart Patterns – Use tiny candy hearts to teach preschoolers about patterns. Make pattern cards by cutting a piece of paper in half lengthwise and drawing colored hearts in a simple pattern such as pink, white, pink, white. Have preschoolers place the corresponding colored candy heart on top of the hearts you have drawn and continuing the pattern.

Love Potion – Make red and blue ice cubes by filling an ice cube tray with water and adding a few drops of food coloring to each ice cube. When the ice cubes are frozen invite each preschooler to put one red ice cube and one blue ice cube into a glass of water. Ask the preschoolers to guess what will happen to the water as the ice cubes melt. Let the water sit for a while. As the ice cubes melt, the water will turn into a purple love potion. Preschoolers may drink the water if they wish.

Heart sorting – Provide preschoolers with several small bowls and a selection of candy hearts. Ask them to sort the candy hearts into the bowls by color.

Preschool Valentines Day Pretend Play

Valentines Day Mailbox – Decorate a small box to use as a mailbox. Provide preschoolers with pretty stationary, stickers and writing materials. Have them “write” valentines to their friends and put them in the mailbox. Preschoolers will love sending and receiving mail.
