Get a Fitness Consultation

1017665_big_stretchCongratulations! You have made the decision to get back on the Fitness Wagon! But which wagon do you get on?? There are so many to choose from, that it might be discouraging. The first place to start is by having a Certified Personal Trainer and/or Fitness Instructor evaluate your current level of Fitness.

By creating a baseline you have a starting point that you can measure your progress against. You should get the following details out of this consultation:
• Vital Statistics – Weight, Body Fat Percentage (which you can use to determine your Body Mass Index) and your measurements (chest, waist, bum, arms and thighs).
• Specific Health Concerns – Arthritic joints, Overused Muscle, Underused Muscle, and Fatty areas
• A Six week plan to get you started – this should include both exercise and nutrition details.
• A baseline for your level of fitness – time to complete a mile (walking or running), how many crunches, push-ups, and chin-ups you can do without a break of more then 10 seconds.
Once you have determined you current level you need to decide what your ultimate goal might be. Is it that you want to look x number of inches from your waistline? Do you want to run a mile in 6 minutes or less? Whatever it is put it in writing, even in a contract. Determine your timeline as well. In your timeline you want to make mini-goals. For example let’s say you currently do a mile in 12 minutes. You give yourself 4 weeks for every 2 minutes off your time until you get to your big goal time.
You also need to decide just how you are going to reach your goal. Free weights, running at the local track, taking aerobics classes, got to a circuit gym, working with a personal trainer. Which ever it is make sure that it something you enjoy so that you are more inclined to stick with it. Also one of the most treacherous exercise faux pas is getting into a rut and getting bored. You have to use a variety of exercise types to keep your body interested. Another good tip – once something “feels” easy it’s time to step it up a notch!!
So make yourself an appointment to get evaluated today so you can set yourself up for Success!!!
