Winning Ways

I have been entering sweepstakes as a hobby for more than ten years now, but it was just within the last year that I started entering blog giveaways.  Now they are what I enter almost exclusively because the odds of winning are much, much better. Blog giveaways take a little more work than the average sweepstakes, so many people can’t be bothered to enter them.  They generally require you to visit a website and answer a question for the initial entry.  Because of the extra effort required, many avoid blog giveaways like the plague.  This works out to your advantage if you are willing to put in a little extra effort.

When people find out that our family’s Christmas this year was almost completely provided by prizes I won, they want to know how I did it. So I thought I would share some tips each week to help you increase your odds of winning blog giveaways.

This week’s tip is to take advantage of the extra entries.   Most blog giveaways offer extra entries for tweeting, posting their button to your site, subscribing to their feed, blogging about the giveaway, etc.  I almost always do all the extra entries.  You can sign up for a twitter account and start a blog on Blogger for free.  By utilizing both of these services, you can gain most, if not all of the extra entries.  From the experience of running a few giveaways on my own blog, I have discovered that most people only do the mandatory entry.  The philosophy is that it only takes one to win.  This is true.  Statistically speaking though, your odds of winning are better the more entries you have.  It all comes down to effort.  If you are willing to put in a little more effort than the average person and do the extra entries, you have a much greater chance of winning.

Sonic Boom Alarm Clock

This prize caught my eye this week because my husband is forever resetting the alarm clock and going back to bed “for just 20 more minutes.”  Sometimes he does this multiple times in a morning.  Did I mention that he has to get up at 4 am to go to work?  Most mornings I can’t get back to sleep, despite not having to get up until 6 myself.  So I would love to try the Sonic Boom Alarm clock and see if it can get my sleepy hubby out of bed when the alarm clock first goes off.  If the 113 db extra loud alarm doesn’t get him out of bed on the first try, maybe the super shaker bed vibrating unit would do the trick!

    Although I am not giving it away, I won a laptop through a blog with a twitter entry! Good stuff! I won the Vapire’s Assistant trilogy books that I’m giving away. I usually can’t hold on til Christmas and just give things to people as they come…maybe I’ll start a Christmas chest this year…yeah right!
