What Do You Do With a Destructive Toddler?

This used to be a book.

In nearly 7 years of parenting I have never had a child who tore books.  Then, along comes my 2 year old. The kid can actually tear board books. My older two kids love to read but my youngest seems to only be interested in demolishing the books in the house.

I love to read. I actually majored in English just so I could be handed stacks of books and told to read them for homework. I don’t know what to do with a child who not only won’t sit for a story but can’t be left alone with a book because he will kill it. My husband actually found this stack in his crib. He wanted to know if our 2 year old had decided he was a bird and had to line his crib with paper.

How to you deal with toddlers who destroy books?

My son is 2.5 and does the same thing. I’ve actually repurchased a few of the books that we enjoyed reading the most. He seems to be a destroyer in general. My first did not break or destroy much at all so I am surprised at the amount of damage he can do. I’m hoping this is a phase and hope it’s the same for you
