Once you have kids you become a mom. This may seem obvious but what most of us don’t realize (okay, what I didn’t realize), is that once you become a mom, you are a mom all. the. time. I love being with my kids and most of the time I don’t even care that I the only break I get is when I’m in the bathroom (and even then there are usually at least one set of fingers poking under the door). My oldest will be 7 this summer and I have never taken a trip without my kids. The New York Toy Fair starts this Sunday, and I’m taking my first trip without my kids, just in time for Valentines Day (convenient how that works out isn’t it?). I’m frantically trying to pack for the trip and make arrangements so that everything stays in one piece while I’m gone but I am so excited to see all the new toys for 2010.
I have always wanted to go to Toy Fair. I may actually like toys more than my kids do, but don’t tell them that. I’ve decided that when they get older I’m going to have to go back to doing daycare and teaching preschool just so I can justify having so many toys in my house. I’m also insanely excited to go on a trip where I don’t have to spend the entire time frantically counting kids to make sure we haven’t lost anyone and exploring new places at a pace that only preschoolers can keep. With this trip comes a new milestone – reading a book on an airplane. This will be the first time that momentous act has happened since I had children. I’m not really sure whether or not I’m going to know what to do with myself. I do know, however, that no matter how hyped up I get about going on a real grown up trip (even if it is to play with toys), I’m going to miss my kids like crazy the second my plane takes off.
We’ll be tweeting daily from the show and posting to Busy Mommy Media whenever we can. Be sure to follow @BusyMommyMedia on Twitter so you can get the latest news from the show. Wish us (and the brave/generous grandparents who are watching my kids) luck!
