Our little caterpillar friends from Insect Lore have woken up after their crazy trip through the mail. Have you noticed how much bigger they are already? They were a bit sleepy the first day but now they are moving around all over the place. It’s crazy how much they have grown already. See that brown stuff on the bottom? That’s the caterpillar food. When they first arrived it was nearly completely smooth on the bottom. Now it’s pitted and bumpy since they’ve been eating it for several days. Our caterpillars have been working hard spinning silk, which looks a bit like spider webs. This silk helps them move around their cup a bit easier and protects them.
We went to Disneyland after the LA Brunch yesterday with the kids and my 4 year old was delighted with the Bug’s Life ride where you ride a caterpillar through all of the food he eats. When I told him that our caterpillars were eating lots of food right now so they could turn into butterflies something just clicked and his whole face lit up.
