There are all kinds of toys. They come in all shapes and sizes. Some are designed to teach necessary skills and some are just supposed to be fun. We are certain to see all kinds here at this year’s Toy Fair in New York City.
This morning we kicked off the show as the real Optimus Prime greeted us at the press preview of the 2011 Hasbro/ Playskool line-up. Given how much of a nightmare driving a semi with a trailer down 8th Avenue in midtown Manhattan, I am glad he had the guidance of the All Spark to keep him from running over some poor taxi driver.
Inside the event, Optimus Prime handed over the show to Elmo and Cookie Monster to introduce the Elmo Rocks! This is where I have to admit that we have had several talking Elmo toys, and while my kids love them, they don’t always get much playtime because they are a bit limited in the possibilities for play. Elmo Rocks! is really interactive and it gives kids several ways to join in the fun. I’m sure it would eventually drive me crazy but I’d be willing to bet it would keep my kids busy for quite a while. I’d tell you about it myself, but this guy is much more animated than I could ever be:
My 7 year old son would never forgive me if I didn’t mention his new favorite toy-which is apparently a big hit during recess at his school. Beyblades are basically a top with a plastic pull chord that gives them a quick burst of speed but they are styled in a way that little boys can’t resist. Beyblades are already available in store, but later this year they will add Beyblade Extreme Tops with Spin Control that will allow the user to control the direction of his Beyblade once it is already spinning and even give it a quick boost of power. I pretty sure that Santa will have to hunt these down after they come out this fall.
If you watch any 3D movies or play 3D video games and are sick of messing with flimsy paper 3D glasses, check out this Transformer’s mask that doubles as 3D glasses. It will certainly hold up better to extended use by kids.
Play-Doh is always a favorite. There are some great new play kits coming out this year. Hasbro sent us home with a Play-Doh Cookie Monster’s Letter Lunch Playset that comes out this spring. We’re staying with family and found a very willing tester in my cousin’s 4 year old daughter. This set comes with a complete set of alphabet stampers and molds to create a great variety of healthy food choices that kids can feed to cookie monster. This would make a fantastic birthday gift!
We’ll be posting video coverage directly to our YouTube channel throughout Toy Fair so if you want to follow along and see some of the great new toys we are playing with over the next few days, be sure and subscribe to the Busy Mommy Media YouTube channel.
