Giveaway: KaBAM Word Game

KaBAM Word Game Review We’re homeschooling again this year and for the most part it’s going fairly well, but I have a struggling writer and dealing with him is making me want to pull my hair out. He’s always been a great reader, but writing does not come naturally to him, largely due to the fact that his spelling and handwriting skills need some serious help. Traditional methods bore him to tears so I’m always on the lookout for fun ways to improve his language skills.

KaBAM is a great word game from Educational Insights that helps kids practice building words without all the pressure of traditional schoolwork. This game really gets kids thinking about the way words are formed and helps reinforce basic phonics rules if they need some review.

The way the game works is each player lays down a card. The cards each have a word part on them, either a consonant, vowel, suffix, prefix, or dipthong. The goal is to be the first player to add one or more letter to the cards to create a word. My 8 year old really enjoyed making up some nonsense words in addition to real words as we played the game and it’s helped him be a bit more creative in his writing when he needs to come up with different word choices.
