When it comes to holiday decorations I have two rules. I don’t want to spend a lot of money and I don’t want to waste a lot of time.
Now I realize that if you enjoy crafts and decorating, time may not be an issue. I have a lot of really crafty friends and for them, creating beautiful decorations is a hobby. It’s fun for them. I prefer the end result so I look for projects that are super quick and easy and preferably that my kids can join in on. I’ve long since learned that I need to focus my time and energy on the things that I enjoy doing.
These simple metallic pumpkins make very affordable fall decorations and create a beautiful accent on any holiday table or your front porch.
Materials
-
Assorted pumpkins and gourds of any shape or size - Outdoor spray paint in a color of your choosing
- Paper to lay under the pumpkins as they dry
Instructions
This project is about as simple as it gets. Start with clean pumpkins. If you want you can wipe them down with a wet towel before you start, just be sure that they are completely dry before you start working with them.
Lay your pumpkins out on a surface that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. This can be old newspaper or the grass in your backyard, provided you don’t mind sacrificing part of your yard until the grass is cut.
Cover your pumpkin stem lightly with masking tape unless you want the stem colored too. Spray your pumpkins with an indoor/outdoor spray paint. Be sure to get in all the crevices so you end up with a smooth finish when you are done.
Allow your pumpkins to dry for at least 24 hours.
Once dry, display your pumpkins on your kitchen table, on your front porch, or anywhere else you need a little bit of holiday cheer. The great thing about these is they aren’t specific to Halloween so you can leave them out until Thanksgiving if you want or carve them just before Halloween and get double use out of them.
