Remodeling your kitchen is a huge undertaking, no matter what stage of life you are at. Once you start a kitchen remodel, there’s no going back so make sure you are ready to see it through before you start.
After having been through several remodels, I’ve learned that there are a few things you need to consider before jumping into a remodel.
Do you have wiggle room in your budget?
Remodeling always ends up costing more than you plan on. Extra expenses come up, you run into issues you weren’t planning on, and you find things along the way that you want to add to your plan. Before you start remodeling, be sure you have some wiggle room. Best case scenario, you end up with extra cash in the bank at the end. Worst case, you at least won’t end up going into debt when your remodel ends up costing more than you originally thought it would.
Create a best-guess estimate before starting and then add some money to that budget to make sure you are covered.
You can stretch your budget further by hunting for deals as you go. Right now Best Buy is hosting the The Appliances Remodeling Sales Event and has some great deal on Samsung appliances. You can save up to 30% Appliances. Minimum Savings is 5%. Plus, get a free $100 gift card when you buy 2 Major Appliances totaling $1500 or more
To make the most out of your money, check out the Samsung Bundle & Save promotion (ENDS 4/4) to save an additional 10% on select Samsung 4-piece Kitchen Packages.
Appliances can take up a huge portion of your budget so if you are able to save money on those you have more money available for other projects. I have a Samsung french door refrigerator and have loved it. The styling really elevates my whole kitchen and every detail is so functional.

Have a plan in place for cooking meals.
The biggest challenge when you are remodeling your kitchen is obviously not having a kitchen during the process. You’ll need a plan in place so you won’t have to eat out for every meal — that would get expensive really fast.
You can get a bit creative so that you can still have decent meals during a kitchen remodel.
- Make menu plans that primarily use a slow cooker, Instant Pot, or microwave.
- Stock your freezer with slow cooker/Instant Pot meals that you can just pull out and pop in to cook.
- Have a list of meals that require little to no prep work like sandwiches, microwaved meals, etc.
- Arrange to eat meals with friends and family members a few nights a week to give you some variety.
- Save fast food coupons so you have cheaper options when you do have to eat out.
Know what you like.
The remodeling process can be so much more complicated if you don’t know what you want before starting. Get a feel for your personal style. Visit model homes in your area, if possible, to see what you like in person. When you see something you like, write it down or take a picture so you have a better idea of the style that you are going for when you sit down to make a plan for your remodel.
If you have a designer that you trust, pass that information on and you should end up with a plan that you love.
