Weekly Preschool Lesson Plans – All About Me
Preschoolers are at such a fun developmental stage because they are learning to be an individual and starting to understand all the amazing things that they can do. This week’s preschool lesson plan will help your preschooler explore who he is.
Preschool Art – Fingerprinting
Preschool art is more about the experience than the final result. Simple art techniques can help preschoolers develop important small motor skills and give them confidence in their own abilities. Painting is always a favorite with preschoolers but there are nearly endless ways to vary the experience. Show your preschooler how to paint with his finger tips instead of a paintbrush with this preschool art activity.
Back to (Public) School
My 7 year old son started 2nd grade this week and it’s a big milestone for him because he’s making the transition from homeschooling to public school. We homeschooled last year using the K12 curriculum, which I LOVED by the way, but we’re new to the area and my son wanted the chance to meet more kids (and for some reason he was really, really excited about the chance to eat lunch at school). It’s going to be an adjustment for our family for sure. The first night my son was so excited he couldn’t fall asleep until after midnight. The second morning, I couldn’t drag him out of bed. I’m not sure public school was exactly what he thought it would be but I’m hoping once he adjusts, it will be a good experience.
Does Your Child Need a Math Makeover? -Texas Instruments Giveaway
Math has never been my strong point, although I suspect that I would probably enjoy the logic of it more now, after years of dealing with unruly toddlers, than I did in high school. During high school I insisted that I absolutely would not need math outside of school. I should have known that would come back to bite me. I went to school to be an English teacher and ended up with a job teaching math. I stayed one chapter ahead of my students so they wouldn’t discover my secret – I failed algebra and had to go to summer school.
Teaching Last Name Recognition
Young children are often excited to learn how to write their first names, as doing so is one of the initial rites of passage that signifies “growing up.” Writing last names is typically not given the same attention at home, and children will usually learn to do this later in school. Yet, when children enter pre-school or kindergarten, they may already be asked to recognize their full names on cubbies or chairs. It would be helpful, therefore, for children to enter a formal school setting fully prepared with the ability to identify both their first and last names.

Top Toys to Get Kids Moving this Summer
Active play is so important for a child’s growth and development and summertime is the perfect chance to take advantage of the warmer weather and get out and play. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, children who are physically active not only have stronger bones and lower obesity rates, but they also have higher self esteem and lower incidences of depression. Most children don’t need much encouragement to be physically active if given the chance, but these great outdoor toys make it easy for kids to stay active and have fun. As a mother, former daycare provider/preschool teacher, and blogger, I’ve had the chance to test out some of the best ride-on toys and active play toys for kids over the years. These are some of my personal favorites.
