We all go through phases where we are just a bit overwhelmed by everything on our to-do lists. I’m definitely going through one of those phases at the moment myself. Simplifying your budget is the perfect way to relief stress and save yourself some time so you can get back to everything else you need to do.
These 5 easy tips will help you simply for you budget and save some of your valuable time.
Cut out Unnecessary Expenses
The quickest way to simplify your budget is to eliminate anything unnecessary. If you don’t need it don’t waste time paying for it (or budgeting for it). The fewer things in your budget the easier it is to deal with.
Pay Upfront for Things
Everyone needs those little extras. If you want to splurge on something fun, like music lessons for your kids, save up and pay several months in advance. Paying ahead for extra services keeps it out of your monthly budget so you don’t have to think about it.
Schedule Fixed Payments
Nothing sucks up more time then making sure all your bills are paid on time. Set fixed expenses like housing and utilities up on auto-payment so you don’t have to think about them once you’ve created your monthly budget.
Use Prepaid Cards for Variable Expenses
The hardest things to budget for are always your variable expenses. It can be hard to keep track of what you’ve spent each month and how much you have left in your budget that you can spend. Loading the amount you want to budget for each category, such as groceries, onto a Visa Prepaid card can help you keep your variable expenses separate and prevent you from over spending.
Ingo Money has a great service that will let you load funds from checks onto Visa Prepaid cards directly through a mobile app. You can choose to pay a small 1% or 4% fee depending on the check type (with a $5 minimum fee) to load the funds to your card in minutes, or you can wait 10 days to load the funds to your card for free if the check does not return unpaid. Check out this quick video to see how it works.
Set Aside Time to Budget Each Month
If you want to save time on your budget, it may seem silly to schedule time to spend on it but taking the time to set up your budget and organize it for the month will prevent you from having to deal with each little emergency that pops up. Taking the time to really manage your budget will help save you time and money and once you get into the habit of doing it the process will go much faster.
