I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Discover Boating. I received collateral to facilitate my review and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.
With summer upon us, I’m thrilled to be partnering with Discover Boating.
I grew up with a boat docked in my backyard. Boating was always important to my dad, whether he was fishing or participating in water sports, and it was something he liked to include us in and I have great memories from that.
As a parent with three little boys in my house I’ve done a lot of thinking about what it takes to keep our family close together. We’ve really made it a priority to participate in things that will create positive memories.
My parents own a boat that we are able to use frequently but my husband has always said that as soon as we have teenagers (and that’s creeping up way faster than I’m comfortable with) we’ll get a boat of our own so they will want to spend time with us.
That’s the problem with the teenage years. Friends trump family. And friends are great but I’m hoping my kids will have the kind of friends that they will want to bring with them for family activities.
But teens have to be won over a bit. My plan is to do that with food and toys. What teenage boy can resist being fed. My husband’s plan is to win them over with big boy toys — like a boat.
My boys love anything to do with the water and we’ve already made some great memories together on the water. I’m excited for summer fishing trips and time spent out on beautiful lakes.
If you are planning to do any boating with kids, Discover Boating has some great safety tips and ideas for going boating as a family on their Just For Kids page. It’s well worth checking out.
A Good Run
“Good Run” is a fun little film directed by Academy Award nominated director Wally Pfister, that celebrates memories made taking life’s journey by boat. As you make your summer plans, it’s fun to remember why we are choosing to spend time together as a family.
