One of the biggest challenges when teaching kids to help clean up around the house is they get frustrated.
Why do they get frustrated?
A lot of times they just don’t know what they are supposed to do!
You can make chores less stressful for kids (and you!) by spelling out exactly what you mean when you say, “go clean your room”. Â This free printable cleaning checklist for kids is the perfect way to get your kids to help out around the house without getting overwhelmed.
I would honestly never be able to get my house even remotely clean without enlisting the help of my kids. There’s just too many of them! With six kids in the house (and a husband), there’s no possible way for me to clean up after everyone. We have a chore system (and a free printable chore chart) if you want to see how we do things. Our chore system is simple, but it works.

If you want something really simple though, this printable cleaning checklist for kids lays out the basics for each room so that you can tell your kids “go clean the family room” and they’ll know exactly what they need to do. Have kids each pick a room to be responsible for or have all your kids work together to check off every task in each room. It could even be a race if you want to make things fun.
Once I started giving clear instructions, the complaining went way down.
