Staying on track with your healthy habits when things get stressful can be a huge challenge. I know when I get stressed or overwhelmed the first thing I usually want to do is eat.
We have some tips to help you keep your healthy habits on track even when things get a bit crazy with your schedule.
There are definitely a few things you can do to set yourself up for success, even when you know you have a crazy week in front of you.
I have really struggled with making healthy food choices since my twins were born. I used to be awesome at menu planning and I had no problem sticking to a healthy eating plan. Now, with the twins keeping me on my toes all day long I’m tired pretty much all the time . . . and when I’m tired I make terrible food choices. I crave sugar because I need a quick boost of energy. I grab something quick and not overly healthy because I don’t have the energy to cook.
That’s going to change though. My twins are getting older now. I’m still tired but I know that making better eating choices is only going to help increase my energy levels so I’m trying to stick with it.
I have found some things that really make a huge difference in my ability to stick with my healthy eating plans during the week. I’m hoping that they will make your life easier too.
Plan your menu for the week. Menu planning is the most important tool you can use to try and keep your diet on track during the week. I know that if I wait until I am already hungry to think about what I want to eat I’ll end up grabbing whatever is the easiest . . . and that isn’t usually the best choice I can make. Planning my meals ahead of time lets me choose what I’m going to eat when I’m not hungry instead of giving into whatever sounds good at the moment.
Have quick and easy lunch solutions on hand. Sometimes you just need to grab something quick. Most quick choices aren’t great for your diet. I like to keep some easy solutions on hand so that I have healthy options available when I need them.
One of the lunch options I’ve been loving lately is the new Healthy Choice Simply Café Steamers. These are such a neat concept. They are made with 100 percent natural proteins and absolutely no artificial ingredients. To keep the veggies crisp, they use a tray-in-tray steam cooking method that keeps the veggies and protein separate during cooking.
Once your meal is cooked, you pull out the inner tray and dump your protein and veggies into the sauce.
It’s so clever! You end up with a meal that tastes way better than you’d expect to get from your freezer.
You can find Healthy Choice Café Steamers in the freezer aisle at your local grocery stores nationwide for a suggested retail price of $3.29.
Prep food ahead of time. If you are serious about sticking to your healthy goals for the week, make it easy on yourself. Do as much of the work ahead of time so you have no excuses. I love having a day at the beginning of the week to prep food. Bake chicken so you’ll have it hand to throw into salads or eat for a quick snack. Cut veggies so you have a great assortment of healthy choices when you want to snack. Separate smoothie ingredients into freezer bags and stock your freezer with a week’s worth of smoothies.
When I do these things I notice a huge difference in the way my week goes. Making healthy changes is hard enough on it’s own. I figure I need to make it as easy on myself as possible by planning ahead and setting myself up for success.
