Having dinner together as a family is essential. I realize that now, even though my kids are young, and I see how all of us need that chance to slow down and just be together. My kids look forward to mealtime. It’s their time really, because there are no distractions (at least that’s the goal). Our lives are so busy that during the rest of the day we’re constantly multi-tasking so there’s no time to really sit and have a conversation and, you know, actually make eye contact.
The problem is, in this economy, many families are struggling to put dinner on the table, and that’s a really, really, big deal. Libby’s is working to change that. They’ve partnered with local Habitat for Humanity chapters and I’m thrilled to be able to participate in a local build in Salt Lake City next week.
I love the mission of Habitat for Humanity and I’ve always wanted to get involved with one of their projects. With all my kids officially out of diapers I’m taking the chance to do some things that I’ve put off. I’ll be sure and update you about the experience afterwards.
Habitat for Humanity will be building 3 homes in the Salt Lake City area and Libby’s will helping each family who moves into the homes put dinner on the table by providing them with:
- A pantry stocked with Libby’s products to make simple, easy meals for the family
- A dining table for 6 to have a place to enjoy a meal together
- Place settings for at least 6 family members
You Can Help!
Most of us have plenty of extra food in our pantry. Whether you can donate one can or 20, you’ll be helping out a great cause. This economy has hit us all to some degree. It can be easy to get discouraged but one thing that snaps me out of a slump is really taking a good look at what I have and making an effort to help someone else.
You may not have as much money for extra wants these days, but if you’re able to put dinner on the table every night, why not help another family who isn’t as fortunate?
Need Help Getting Back to the Table?
We all go through dinnertime slumps. Libby’s vegetables are a really convenient and affordable way to get dinner on the table and Libby’s has created a great resource to help you out. Getbacktothetable.com has a huge variety of recipes and some amazing tips for simplifying family dinners.
I always try and keep a store of canned vegetables on hand because they save me when I need to throw together a quick family dinner. I’ve found that the faster I can put together a meal, the less likely I am to bag it and head for the drive-through.
