We have a lot of little monsters at my house this Halloween and lately, with the way nap time has been going around here, monsters is a pretty accurate description. At least they are cute little monsters. Having 3 kids ages 2 and under gets tricky sometimes. What I wouldn’t give for a clone. . .
I may not be able to manage to clone myself, but I can round up a second set of eyes. These days I’ll take what I can get. A while back we tested out one of the Levana baby monitors (Check out our review for the Ayden monitor here). While I loved the screen quality, it was a bit limited for my needs with a very active toddler and infant twins. I’ve recently been testing out the Levana Stella video monitor and I’m in love with it! This is a two camera system (expandable up to 4 cameras) so you can keep track of multiple kids (or one fast moving kid) and each camera can pan, tilt, and zoom!
If you have multiple kids, you need this. When you are a baby, there’s nothing sadder than mommy not hearing you cry.
Let me give you a real life use for this:
I’m sitting here working while keeping an eye on three kids who are in different parts of my home. That alone is a miracle with our current stage of life. The Stella monitor switches back and forth between cameras easily and allows you to communicate with one camera at a time. The cameras have a nice, sleek design and they can move just about any direction you need them to so you can still keep an eye on your toddler even if she doesn’t stay in one place.
My twins are peacefully sleeping in their crib. My toddler is, well, not. Naptime is a challenge with her lately. She hates to be by herself and nap time means I’m going to either lay down with her until she falls asleep or spend an hour picking her up and putting her back in her bed every time she gets out.
I set up one of the Stella cameras in her bedroom and one keeping an eye on the twins in my room. With a click of a button I can see that the twins are sleeping soundly. With another click, I can switch to the camera in my toddler’s room and see her yelling that she isn’t tired/wants a drink/wants to be cuddled. I use the monitor to tell her to get back in bed and she yells at me but, knowing she’s being watched, gets back in bed. Nice trick, right?
The screen on this thing is awesome. 4.3 inches and big enough to see all the details you need. I’m keeping it propped up on my desk and I love that I can see it without putting it 2 inches in front of my face.
A few minutes later when I look at the Stella monitor I can’t see my toddler in her bed. No problem. I can use the controls on the monitor to swivel it around the room until I find her in a pile of blankets on the floor reading a book. Normally I would have peeked in her door to see what she was doing, but that would have started the screaming and begging up all over again. Using the monitor I can see that she’s safe and in a position that she might reasonably fall asleep at some point. After another ten minutes or so I can see that she’s fast asleep on the floor.
Naptime is a success!
