How to Make Applesauce in the Instant Pot
Have you fallen in love with your Instant Pot yet? If you haven’t, you probably need a few amazing recipes up your sleeves, like this super simple homemade applesauce. Once I discovered how to make applesauce in the Instant Pot, I’m never going back to store-bought.
This recipe is so easy. You can have homemade applesauce on the table in almost no time at all. As a work at home mom, I love finding quick and easy recipes that help me enjoy homemade treats, especially during the fall when everything is so busy.

Applesauce is probably something you are used to picking up at the store. There’s nothing like the smell of homemade applesauce cooking though and once you try this recipe and realize how easy it is to make homemade applesauce in the Instant Pot, you’ll never want to make it from scratch every time.
I am obsessed with my Instant Pot. I even had to buy a second one so I could make sides or desserts while my main course was cooking and they BOTH get used almost every day. I use my Instant Pot to cook everything from hard boiled eggs to all my favorite fall soups.
I have the Instant Pot 7-in-1 and the Instant Pot 6-in-1 and honestly, I love them both equally. The 7-in-1 has a yogurt setting that I have never used so each pot gets equal use around my house. If you are interested in making yogurt, go for the 7-in-1. If not, you can save a few bucks going with the 6-in-1.

If you haven’t discovered how easy it is to make all your favorite recipes in an Instant Pot yet, you need to grab one. Not only does it save me a huge amount of time, but it also saves me money because we eat out far less often knowing that a great dinner is just 20 minutes away.
Instant Pot Applesauce Ingredients
- 8-10 apples, any variety you like
- 1 Tbsp. Cinnamon
- 1/2 cup water
Instant Pot Applesauce Instructions
Cut your apples in large chunks. I left the skin on for a bit of extra fiber but you could peel them if you want. It saved on prep time too, which didn’t hurt.

Pour a 1/2 cup of water into your Instant Pot.
Sprinkle the top of your apples with cinnamon. You could go as heavy or as light as you want. I didn’t measure this but I ended up using about 1 Tbsp. It’s really just personal preference.

Set your Instant Pot to 7 or 8 minutes on Manual. I did 8 minutes because I knew I was aiming for a smooth applesauce but if you want it a bit chunkier you could go for 7 minutes.

After the 8 minutes is up, let it sit for a few minutes then manually release the steam.
You’ll have some gorgeous, cooked apples in there but not quite applesauce yet.

For chunkier applesauce, use a mashed potato masher and smash it until you get the consistency you wanted. This works better if you have peeled your apples.
For smooth applesauce, pull out your immersion blender (I like this one for the price).
You can blend this right in your Instant Pot. Blend until you get the consistency you want.

Carefully scoop your homemade applesauce into mason jars (or I really like these Wreck Jars).
This will last about 1-2 weeks in the fridge, although it never makes it that long in my house.

This looks crazy good and sounds pretty simple too. I’ve been saying I’d love to get an Instant Pot, now I have a reason to.
Im making this tomorrow, i always put mine through a food mill with peels as 1.its easier and 2. I love pink applesauce. Does the immersion blender break up the skins? I dont have one but if it does i will be sure to get one! Im new to my instant pot but excited to make this applesauce!
A food mill is a great idea. The immersion blender did a pretty good job with the skins. They were nice and soft after cooking. I have a few picky kids and I didn’t hear any complaints 🙂
I was about to ask the same thing so thanks for asking. We make applesauce for patients at our facilities with swallowing difficulties so sometimes peelings are a problem. The food mill saves us a ton of time because we don’t have to peel them prior to cooking. I also think the flavor is better when the apples are cooked “skin on”. Now, if there was only a commercial sized instant pot 😉
I agree with you about the flavor. I like that there’s a bit of extra fiber when you leave the skins on too. Are you using an 8 qt pot? I’ve seen a few 10 qt pots in other brands, but haven’t used those.
At home, I am using a 6 qt. Not currently using them in out nursing homes. You wouldn’t believe the regulations on even simple cooking devices!
I put my cooked apples, skin and all into my blendtec blender and blend until it is very smooth, a baby could eat it.
YUMMY!
How many mason jars does this recipe fill? Thinking about giving these as gifts for thankfgiving!
With these quantities, I got about 2 jars out of it. It depends on how full you pack your Instant Pot too, though.
Hello, first time using my new instant pot, I don’t have the manual setting, what would I use instead? The steam setting? Thank you!
I also do not have a manual setting. Mine has a pressure cook setting button the I use instead.
I just made this with 10 apples, and got 3 pint mason jars out of it.
Just finished making this, it is now cooloing in the refrigerator, can hardly wait! Smells so good. I love applesauce!
I hope you see this…do you have to refrigerate the apples sauce or can you mason jar it, and store in the pantry, or freeze it?
Is it possible that you meant 1 teaspoon instead of 1 tablespoon of cinnamon? We found the cinnamon taste much too strong and it made the applesauce very dark brown. The next time I make this I will cut way back on the cinnamon. However, this method in the instant pot worked great.
I’m fixing to make the applesauce in just a few minutes. It looks delicious. Thanks for posting this
After you’v made this applesauce and put it in the jars can you freeze it?
