We were wrong.
This time around we tried things a bit differently. MovingHelp.com is a service that hooks you up with true professionals to help you load or unload your rented truck. They’ll even help you pack or clean if you want them to. They helped us out this time around and it was well worth it to have professionals involved.
I can honestly say that we will not be loading our own truck in the future. The guys from Moving Help were so knowledgeable and hard working and it saved me from so much extra stress during our move.
Move Without Breaking your Stuff
We’re kind of do-it-yourselfers at heart which is why we’ve always gone with U-Haul for our moves. We’ve always loaded the truck ourselves with a little help from family and friends because we figured it was just a bit of manual labor. We could handle that. So what if a few things got broken along the way. That’s just part of moving, right?
In our last few moves, we’ve had stuff damaged every time. Most of the glass in our picture frames broke the first time we moved. A lot of our wooden furniture has huge gorges because they shifted in the truck.
This time we arrived at our new home without a single piece of damage furnature and I’m kicking myself for not even knowing that the legs came off my table because the table that I saved up for for so long has gotten damaged on every previous move.
The guys from Moving Help said they had been doing this for 20 years and they definitely knew what they were doing. They carefully wrapped every piece of furniture I owned and even told me which material would best protect my leather couch vs. my microfiber one.
Usually when we move I drive behind the truck and tense up every time it makes a turn because I’m worried my things are going to get damaged. This time I couldn’t believe how much more relaxed I was because I knew how well everything was packed.
Move Without Begging for Help
It was freezing when we loaded the truck — one of the downsides to moving in January. While we had many friends promise to come by and help, only a few people actually showed up. We would have been in serious trouble without the Moving Help guys and to be honest, I got a bit tired of begging and pleading for help. We could really count on the Moving Help guys to show up and work hard the entire time they were there.
I feel a bit sorry for the guys really. I have a lot of books. I’ve tried to digitize as many as I can but really, I have a lot of books. Those poor guys carried box after box of books. At one point I heard my husband say to them, “I’m sorry. My wife was an English major.”
Poor guys. I would have been flat on my back if I’d had to do it all on my own. Moving is exhausting either way but I didn’t pull a muscle in my back like the last time I moved and spend months waiting for it to heal. Even our toughest helpers would have fizzled out after carrying those boxes . . . actually come to think of it, maybe that’s why we didn’t have many people show up to help this time around. They knew what was coming.
Moving Help was a lifesaver and I will absolutely be using them the next time we move. I’d highly recommend them if you have a move in your future.
