With school back in session it is time to start getting back into a routine. With 6 kids, we have to work hard to keep everyone’s school coordinated, but I know all that planning is going to go out the window as soon as we start dealing with all the back to school bugs that get shared this time of year.
Not all of those bugs make you sneeze. Some come in the form of lice.
Lice can be a major issue when you have kids in school and it spreads quickly. Now we are hearing about strains of super lice in the news. Just hearing the term “super lice” is enough to set me off scratching my head. I bed many of you did that just reading this.
I’ve been fortunate that I haven’t had to deal with lice with my own kids but when I was a teacher we faced lice outbreaks all the time.
I vividly remember, my first year working in a public school, when one of the teachers pulled me aside, pointed to a child with long curly hair and told me she had just seen lice on her hair.
I hadn’t had much experience with lice at that point.
What followed was 2 weeks of nearly daily lice checks, and it seems like we found a new case of lice every day.
Many of the teachers came down with a case of lice themselves.
I went home scratching phantom itches every day. I think I had a bad case of sympathy lice.
One of my good friends even found lice in her hair the week before her wedding! That was a stressful week for her and getting rid of the lice took quite a bit of time and money.
Now with 3 kids in public school and 3 more at home, I worry what a lice outbreak will mean for my family.
Fortunately, I know that there is a solution if we find ourselves in that situation this school year. Nix® Ultra is a new safe and effective over-the-counter remedy. When I was teaching, we always recommended that parents treat infected students with Nix® before they returned to school so it is a brand I trust.
Nix® Ultra not only kills traditional lice and their eggs, but it is also formulated to kill super lice as well.
Want to find out if your community is at risk of a lice outbreak? The new Nix® Lice Tracker is the first-ever and only data-driven lice tracker, and is an awesome tool to help you determine what is going on in your local area.
I may have cheered a little when I realized my community isn’t reporting any current lice outbreaks. The tool relies on data from school nurses and parents who report directly into the tool as well as IRI data from lice product sales and Google Trends data so you get a pretty good picture of what is going on in your area.
