I’ve gone through plenty of strollers over the years and there’s one thing that I’ve learned – not every stroller is going to fit every need. I have several high end strollers and more often than not, I find myself using the smaller umbrella strollers simply because they are so lightweight and they don’t take up much room in my trunk. The Ignite umbrella stroller from The First Years is a really affordable stroller that is great for most of a busy mom’s everyday needs.
The Ignite is extremely light weight and for a stroller in this price range ($59.99) offers some great extra features like a one hand fold, a good seat recline and a great parent console that includes a nice, deep cup holder and a zippered storage area that’s easily accessible for storing your keys or cell phone.
I would have liked to have seen the handles with a foam covering so I was undecided on them at first but they have a nice ergonomical design that conforms to your hands well and is comfortable to push.
The canopy on the Ignite is adequate. It’s not huge but it certainly does the job. The basket is a decent size and can easily hold a small to medium sized diaper bag
Durability of the Ignite Stroller
One of the biggest factors I consider when looking at umbrella strollers is sturdiness. Umbrella strollers are lightweight, which I love, but that also can make them a bit flimsier. The Ignite has a sturdy feel to it and thick bars that don’t seem likely to break anytime soon. While it is an umbrella stroller and not really designed for much use beyond the pavement we managed to do just fine over grass, smooth dirt trails, and gravel surfaces.
Ignite Stroller Weight Limit
I primarily use a stroller for my 3 1/2 year old so not only do I need a stroller that is sturdy enough to put up with the abuse he’s going to dish out but I need something that can handle his heavier weight. The Ignite is rated for use up to 50 pounds, which is fantastic. The only stroller that I can think of that has a higher weight limit is the Aprica Presto which is rated for 70 pounds but at a much higher price point.
Ignite Stroller Manuverability
Manuverability on the Ignite is pretty good. It isn’t as smooth as the Maclaren’s but again, you’re looking at a much higher price point and the lower models don’t offer the extra features that you get with the Ignite so for the price the Ignite is fantastic. The front swivel wheels allow for quick turns and for only being 14 pounds the Ignite has a very sturdy feel.
