People love to share in the excitement of a new baby by giving gifts. A baby registry makes it easy for you to get the word out about what you still need so you don’t end up with duplicates or things that aren’t useful to you.
Creating a baby registry can be a bit overwhelming though, especially if you are having your first baby and aren’t quite sure what you will need. Having a well-thought-out registry can make the job of preparing for your baby so much easier.
I’m currently pregnant with babies number 5 and 6, and even though I haven’t had a baby shower since my first baby was born, I’ve created a baby registry each time. It really simplifies the planning process for me and it makes it easy to let people know what I need when they ask.
So how do you create the perfect baby registry? These tips will help simplify the process.
Focus on the Essentials First
You always want to make sure you have the basics covered first, so rather than going straight for all the fun little baby items you are dying to have, go through and register for the things you need. Absolute essentials are a car seat (or car seats in my case), a good quality crib mattress, diapers, wipes, swaddling blankets, and basic health and safety items such as a thermometer, baby nail clippers, and first aid supplies.
Register for Items in a Variety of Price Ranges
You probably have many family members and friends who want to shower your baby with gifts, but everyone has a different budget. Include items on your registry that cover a wide price range so everyone can find something in their budget.
Register Somewhere Accessible
There are many great places to create a baby registry, but it doesn’t do you any good if your family and friends don’t regularly shop where you registered. Make things easy on everyone and find a store that offers both online shopping options and local pickup so everyone has an option they are comfortable with. Walmart.com has a baby registry, and it offers a great assortment of baby products with both online and local shopping options.
Keep your Baby Registry Live After your Shower
A baby registry doesn’t just have to be used for a baby shower. During this pregnancy, I created a baby registry early on just to keep track of the things that I need to buy. Pregnancy can really wreck havoc on your memory. Simplify things by keeping everything in one place on your registry and add baby products as you receive recommendations from other moms. You’ll have a record of what has already been purchased and what purchases need to be made before your baby arrives.
