For me, it’s broken appliances. I know that sounds silly but honestly, I’m great in tough situations. We’ve been through the loss of a baby, several serious illnesses and injuries, and long-term stressful situations involving unemployment and family drama. Those things are all hard, but I can handle them.
Broken appliances, however, for some reason those send me over the edge.
My dishwasher broke days before my 3rd son was born. I thought I was going to go stark raving mad. The idea of having to hand wash dishes with a newborn in the house made me crazy. I made it very clear that I was not coming home from the hospital until a new dishwasher was installed.
I think my husband had a dishwasher ordered and scheduled for delivery within hours. He knows he has to deal with a very grumpy wife if the appliances don’t keep working.
That’s why, when our nearly new washing machine stopped draining water over the weekend, he knew he was in trouble. Fortunately we have a Square Trade warrantee on it so we’re getting to find out how well it really works.
I thought the difference in our reactions was amusing though, and this right here is the difference between men and women: while I was freaking out, my husband was thrilled that the washing machine broke because it meant he was getting his money’s worth out of the warrantee we paid for. Hopefully this current speed bump won’t take up too much time or cause too much stress.
