One of the things my kids look forward to the most is opening the box of Christmas decorations that contains our nativity set.
No, my kids are not well behaved enough to be trusted around breakable things. We just have some fabulous, kid-friendly nativity that my kids can play with all they want. . . and we have some great suggestions you should add to your holiday decorations.
Our nativity collection (yes, we have more than one) includes a plastic Little People set (instead of ceramic figures that are definitely NOT kid-friendly), and it’s been one of the best holiday purchases we have ever made.
Instead of spending the holiday season nagging the kids to stay away from the nativity set because it’s breakable, we can encourage them to actually touch it and take the opportunity to focus on the real story of Christmas by incorporating it into their play.
There are some great nativity sets available that are kid-friendly and can help you bring your children into the holiday festivities.
This nativity set is kid-friendly and absolutely charming. It does contain smaller pieces than some of the others, though, so don’t give this set to children under 3.
This set looks good enough to display right along side the adult Christmas decorations. The color scheme can blend into any decor and the detail on each of these figures is awesome.
Want something truly unbreakable? This fabric nativity set is exactly what you need.
This set is absolutely adorable and features lovely, bright colors. All the pieces can be stored in the manger, which has a handle so it is easy to carry around.
The best part? If you lose pieces they will replace them for free!
The detail and colors on this set are absolutely gorgeous! Kids love this set and it is made of hand carved wooden pieces so they are super sturdy. The large pieces are perfect for small hands.
This set looks fantastic on display and holds up to lots of play. This is definitely a piece that your kids will enjoy for years to come.
If you are looking for a more modern design for your nativity set, this set from Design Ideas is the perfect option. Modern and stylish, these nativity pieces are also kid-friendly!
This set comes with a sturdy storage box to keep your set protected when Christmas is over. I love the sleek design of this set and the bright colors are so attractive.
I absolutely fell in love with this Nativity set from Haba when I discovered it a few years ago. It’s even cuter in person and it’s a great little hands-on set that your kids will enjoy for years to come. This would be an amazing gift for your children this holiday season.
The artwork is phenomenal and the quality is just as great as you’d expect from Haba. I love that everything closes up so nicely in the box when you are done — perfect for storage or taking with you if you are traveling for the holidays!
This nativity from Little People can be hard to find around the holidays (so if you see one, snatch it up). It is super popular and one of our personal favorites.
Little People have been around for so long for a very good reason – kids absolutely love them and they are fairly close to indestructible. We purchased this nativity set several years ago and it looks brand new.
There are several variations of this set. Some include the wise men and some include shepherds so you’ll just want to look at what they offer and pick one that fits your budget (since they vary fairly dramatically in price too) and has the pieces you want. These do get difficult to find in stock the closer we get to Christmas though so you’ll want to order early. Get the matching Advent Calendar so your kids can count down to Christmas day.
We’re big fans of Melissa and Doug in our house. Everything we’ve ever purchased from them has been really well made and held up well under the abuse of daycare kids and my own 3 kids.
This child-friendly, wooden nativity set provides a “please touch” holiday experience. The four-piece stable is easy to assemble and the 11 figures encourage your child to re-enact the events of that Christmas Day long ago. A retelling of the Christmas story is included on the package to help create a treasured family tradition for the holiday.
Want to keep things super simple? These nativity scene sticker sheets are perfect! These would be fantastic at a holiday party or as a table activity for Christmas Eve or Christmas dinner for the kids!
These come in a set of 24 so they are great if you need something for a crowd (and at under $10 you won’t break the bank).
If you want something a bit more reusable you can check out this window cling nativity.
Playmobil is well known for making high quality, durable toys. This great nativity set has some great detail to it and will last you for years to come. This set comes with the 3 wise men, Mary, Joseph, and several animals. Some of the pieces are smaller so this set would be a huge hit for kids who are a bit older and probably isn’t suitable for toddlers or preschoolers who are still putting toys in their mouths.
The great detail makes it appealing to older kids as well.
This rubber duck nativity set is a great twist on a classic and would be perfect for younger kids who aren’t ready for nativity sets that include smaller pieces.
Priced at under $8, you don’t even have to feel guilty if you use this nativity set in the tub – and how often do you get to do that? You don’t have to worry about young kids breaking this set (or anything else by if you have a toddler who likes to throw things).
This one has my vote for cutest kids nativity. My kids love anything plush and I love that I don’t need to worry about this breaking! All the pieces can fit inside the stable and it has a carrying handle so they can play with it on the go.
