Do you love caramel apples?
Caramel apples are the ultimate fall treat, but they can be so hard to eat, especially for kids. These Sliced Caramel Apple Pops taste amazing and are so much easier to make (and eat) than a traditional caramel apple.
We love making caramel apples as a family. With 6 kids, everyone is covered in caramel by the end, but we all have a good time. This year, we wanted to try something a bit different.
My twins are two years old right now and if you’ve ever watched a toddler try to eat a caramel apple, you know it doesn’t work too well.
It is hilarious, but there aren’t many bites out of the apple when you are done.
These sliced caramel apple pops are much easier for everyone and they are so fun to decorate.
Ingredients
- 3 apples
- 1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 bag melting caramels + 2 tsp water
- 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
- Seasonal sprinkles of your choice
- Lollipop sticks – I like these ones the best.
Preparation
Take each apple and briefly dip into a pot of boiling water for around 4-5 seconds to get the wax off.
Slice each apple longways around 1/3 – 1/2 inch in thickness
On the bottom end, stick a thin knife in to make a slit, then put a lollipop stick in the slit about 1.5 inches in.
Melt chocolate according to package directions, then put in a gallon size freezer bag, cutting off a tiny piece of one corner.
Pipe out the chocolate in a smooth zigzag motion to cover each apple. Go over it as many times as you would like.
While that is hardening, melt your caramels on low heat with 2 tsp of water, stirring frequently.
When that is melted, take a spoon and drizzle your caramel over your apples.
Sprinkle crushed nuts or other items on top before caramel hardens.
